For a second day in a row a student shows up with a Spanish language T-shirt.

Spanish enthusiasm

If you wear a shirt with Spanish on it you might just excite your teacher enough to get your picture taken.  Even if she didn't know who Rafa was.  I know now.  Rafael Nadal, Spain's super tennis player.

Maybe this first grader will be Virginia's next super tennis player.

First graders try out animal grouping

First graders have been learning the vocabulary for farm animals and have reviewed zoo animals and are now ready to compare, contrast and group them.  Check out how enthusiastic they are about this new activity.

Special visitors to the Spanish classroom

Today we had two former Grange Hall students and current 8th graders from Bailey Bridge in class to teach the 3rd graders and Kindergarteners Spanish resource.  The students really enjoyed the experience.  Miss Powell and Miss Znotens both did a great job teaching more about the shapes to the 3rd graders and body parts to the Kindergarteners. 

Spanish club update

Spanish club participants have completed their cascarones and their piñatas.  They have made and tasted lots of new foods and drinks and are ready to party at the fiesta next week.  This 5th week of Spanish club had the students making and eating tropical fruit salad and creating their own salt dough animals.

Spring updates

4th graders have learned a lot about plants in Spanish class.  They've planted seeds and have been documenting their growth.  They've also created mini-books and have taken them home to read to parents.  Students who completed that assignment earned a treat in Spanish class this week.

2nd graders are still working on animals of the rainforest.  This week they are working in stations or centers to classify animals.  Check out some of the work they are doing in the following pictures:

Here they are trying to decide in which layer of the rainforest each animal lives.

The next few pictures show students classifing the animals by descriptions and opposites.

 What kind of animals are they?

This activity was a lot of fun and the 2nd graders did a great job of only speaking Spanish while working, even when they disagreed about the correct classification.
